Raul has earned a B.A. in French with a minor in Spanish from SDSU, master's in Spanish from SDSU an a master's in comparative literature form UCSD. Since 1982, he has been teaching Spanish here as a adjunct. He has also taught at Grossmont College and lectured at San Diego State University.
