Edward C. Alexander is Professor of Chemistry and Program Director of the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program at San Diego Mesa College. He received his B.S. degree from the City College of New York, and his PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Iowa State University in the field of Organic Photochemistry. Prior to joining the faculty at San Diego Mesa College, he held positions of Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Coordinator of the Third College Science and Technology Program at the University of California, San Diego; Visiting Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, California State University at Los Angeles; and Supervisor of Mathematics and Science in the SDCCD/ United States Navy Broadened Opportunity For Officers Selection and Training Program. Dr. Alexander has been Chair of the Chemistry Department and Chair of Chairs of Mesa College’s Academic Senate. He has published and presented numerous papers in the fields of chemical research and higher education. He has also served as a consultant for government agencies and in private industry. Dr. Alexander is a recipient of the American Chemical Society’s Distinguished Service Award. He has been the Program Director/ Principal Investigator of the Mesa College/UCSD National Institutes of Health funded Bridges to the Baccalaureate Research Program since 2009.
