Myra Gonzalez

Education:
B.A., M.Ed., San Diego State University

Ms. Gonzales earned both a B.A. in Public Administration, and a M.Ed. in Counseling from San Diego State University. Additionally, she has completed post- graduate level work at Michigan State University in Counseling Psychology.

Ms. Gonzales has over 10 years experience in the field of counseling. She has been employed as an adjunct counselor in Mesa's EOPS program since 1998. Myra has taken a leadership role with the department's Academic Intervention Program and with the academic success workshop series. Both programs have been key in helping EOPS students to attain high levels of academic achievement. She has also held counseling positions at SDSU in the Educational Opportunity Program, and at Michigan State for the College of Human Medicine, the Health Center, and the Julian Samora Institute. She has also served as a counselor at the Cristo Rey Community Clinic in Lansing Michigan.

Prior to her employment at Mesa College, Ms. Gonzales held a variety of teaching positions both within the community college system and at the university level. She taught EDU 100 (Tutor Training) at City College, personal development courses at Cuyamaca and Southwestern Community Colleges and counseling courses for the Counseling, Educational, and School Psychology department at Michigan State University.

Ms. Gonzales is, herself, a product of EOPS and the community college system. This coupled with her professional experience in a variety of settings, adds to her depth of knowledge and her approach in working with a diverse student population. We welcome Myra to the School of Student Development and to the Department of EOPS and STAR.
