At Mesa we primarily focus on parliamentary debate. Parliamentary debate (commonly abbreviated as parli) is lively, audience-oriented debate that focuses on clash. (video link coming soon)
In Parliamentary debate you get a resolution and have a prep time, usually about 15 minutes. There are of course two teams, Government and the Opposition. Both teams prepare a case in regards to the resolution; sometimes this can be tricky if it is a metaphorical resolution. Debate is not only fun, but it also will provide knowledge about current events, and even gives a better understanding of politics. Debate is a skill that teaches reasoning skills beyond the normal level of reasoning. Debate is a skill that can provide help with everyday life, it makes you think quicker on your feet, and provides you with the ability to reason things out and explain them in a way to make them more impactful, and have more meaning.
