Most college students head to the gym for a workout. At San Diego Mesa College, students can train for Financial Fitness courtesy of USA Federal Credit Union. Neva Buckhanon, Director of Business Development, will present a free workshop, “Financial Fitness for Business Success,” on the College’s Kearny Mesa campus Tuesday, October 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room LRC 435.
The presentation is designed to help students understand their business from the bank’s point of view – and to understand what banks look for in business loan applications. Buckhanon, who serves on the Advisor Board for the Partnership in Education with San Diego Unified Schools, will lead an all-star team of business mentors and coaches. Guest speakers include small business specialists with expertise in marketing, loans and public relations.
“Business students today have a better understanding of the global economy and the rewards of new business enterprises. This workshop will help them address the challenges in acquiring financial support,” said Otto Lee, Dean of Business/Computer/Technology and Economic Development.
According to Buckhanon, this understanding begins with a strong business plan and an ongoing relationship with a banker. “Small business owners have to sell their idea to the bank first,” says Buckhanon. “This workshop shows students who own or plan to own their own business how to market their business plan to lenders.”
The workshop is offered free to all Mesa College students. The general public is invited on a space available basis. For more information, call 619-388-2803.
