Congressman Bob Filner commemorates Constitution Week at Mesa College with a discussion on Arizona’s new state law regarding undocumented residents, their children and its intersection with the Fourteenth Amendment's definition of citizenship. Prior to the Congressman’s remarks, SDCCD Chancellor Constance M. Carroll will discuss the significance of Constitution Day. The lecture begins at 12 noon on Friday, September 17, in Room G-101 at Mesa College.
On Thursday, September 16, the reigning national and international debate champions, the Mesa College Olympian Speech and Debate Team, will debate proposed changes to the Fourteenth Amendment. The debate will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on the college’s Free Speech Stage next to H-500. The resolution asks Congress to end the practice of automatically granting citizenship to everyone born in the United States.
Constitution Day displays will be featured all week long at the Mesa Bookstore and Learning Resource Center.
