MEDIA Services


The Library provides media services and material to students, faculty, and staff at Mesa College, which includes CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes.

Different services are available to faculty/staff and students, so be sure to check the appropriate menu on the Media Services homepage.

The Media Services division is located at the Circulation Counter on the first floor of the Learning Resources Center.

Services Overview

A large collection of videocassettes, DVDs and CDs are located here. Access to the Community College Consortium video collection is coordinated through this department as well.

There are three booths with video playback equipment, audiocassette players and other equipment. They are located on the fourth floor in Rooms 416, 418 and 419.

Video production services are available to faculty and staff, and video editing is available for students. Video services include downloads for teleconferencing.

All work done by the department must be for school related projects, and must be copyright compliant.

Video Libraries and Reference Services

Mesa College MEDIA Collection

Mesa College has a collection of videos and compact discs that is located in the Circulation Counter on the first floor of the LRC.  It includes over 500 VHS tapes, 545 DVDs and 485 compact discs (CDs).

To search for a VHS videotape, DVD or CD, go to the AV Search page of the online library catalog. 

Faculty and staff may check out media materials (DVD/VHS/CD), for classroom use. Faculty members may check out a maximum of five items which are due back not later than seven days after checkout. If an item needs to be reserved for a specific date, please make prior arrangements with a staff member. Students may view DVD or VHS videos in the LRC only; the videos cannot be taken out of the building. However, students can checkout CD's for two weeks.

Library Services now offers access to thousands of videos through the Films on Demand streaming database. Searchable by key word or broad discipline, videos include accompanying text which meets ADA requirements and copyright compliance. Clips of videos can be embedded into Blackboard.

San Diego and Imperial Counties Community College Consortium Video Library

Mesa College is a member of the Consortium Video Library. As a Mesa faculty member, you may borrow videos from this library for free.

You will need a client code to reserve videos through this service. Simply call the San Diego County Office of Education at 619-718-4983 (8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday) or send an email to and request a client code. Once you have your individual client code, your password is Mesa .

Go to the searching and booking instructions and print out the two-page document.

A requested video will be sent to the Library Circulation Desk located on the first floor of the LRC, where you can pick it up. When done with the video, simply return it to the Circulation Desk.  Deliveries are made bi-weekly on Monday and Thursday mornings. 

Replacement costs are the responsibility of the borrower.

MEDIA SERVICES Reference Service

The Media division of Library Services has access to many catalogs and online databases that are useful in finding videos that meet your curricular needs.

Contact Devin Milner at 619-388-2547 to arrange for a search of these resources for your subject. As the budget allows, he will also assist you purchasing needed media resources.

Services for Students

Equipment and Booth Services

There are three (3) booths with video playback equipment, audiocassette players and other equipment located on the fourth floor.

Viewing/listening Booths

Equipment is available for student use in the adjoining booths. It is available on a first come, first serve basis. It includes:

  • VCR playback and recording equipment
  • CD and audiocassette players

Multimedia Collection

The Media Services department also has a multimedia collection which includes DVDs and CDs. It can be accessed through the AV Search page of the online library catalog. There you can search by keyword in the search box or browse the two categorized lists of videos.

The department has a full time staff that is available to assist you.

A current Mesa ID card must be presented to use media or equipment.

    • Transfer and editing of audio programs from various formats (cassette, CD).
  • Captioning Language
    • Captioning Resources (Detailed PDF)
    • Captioning services for in-house videos 30 minutes or less may be obtained in the Library/Media Services division.  Please contact Michael McLaren at x2667.
    • Captioning for commercially-produced videos previously owned by the college or in-house instructional videos that exceed 30 minutes may be obtained through SDCCD Online Pathways.

  • Copyright Compliance
    • Copyright compliance is required on all video production services. For more information see Copyright Information section below.
  • Digitization
    • Digitization of slides for use in video productions, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
  • Off-Air Recording
    • Off-air recording for classroom use.
  • Post Production
    • Provide professional video postproduction services using Final Cut Pro and AVID non-linear editing system.
    • Digitization and editing of video footage into a product that can be used in a variety of formats.
    Professional Video Production Services
    • Videotape campus projects/presentations
