Consistent with their interdisciplinary applications, the GIS programs at Mesa College invites students from a wide range of academic disciplines.

From architecture through zoology, GIS will benefit any subject or vocational field dealing with spatial problems and display. The introductory course has no pre-requisites other than previous exposure to a "point & click" operating system. Students who benefit from the program are:

  1. Full-time employees in public and private agencies seeking to upgrade their professional skills through part-time study (Saturday classes);
  2. Students wanting to complete the three semester Certificate program;
  3. Associate Degree program students desiring GIS technician-related employment, or to transfer to a four year program;
  4. Students who wish to supplement their major course work with one or more GIS electives.

All GIS courses are conducted is a state-of-the-art computer lab with large-memory, high-speed hardware. ArcView and ArcInfo software will be emphasized, together with other mapping or modeling software. Instructors are experienced professionals with ESRI certification. Proposed Development
