Financial aid funds are awarded according to federal regulations and policy. The basis of this policy is the belief that students and their parents have the primary responsibility for meeting educational costs. The amount of the contribution expected from students and their parents is determined by the information students and parents provide on the FAFSA. Congress has established a formula to estimate how much a family can contribute to the student's education.
