Green Film: Future Conditional
Please join us for a showing of Future Conditional, a film that explores several examples of environmental degradation around the globe, including rising pollution levels in the Arctic, water and soil contamination along the US/Mexico border, ecological devastation in Uzbekistan's Aral Sea, and toxic dust storms near Palm Springs, California. Following the film, professor Don Barrie will lead a discussion.

Green Lecture: The Salton Sea Ecosystem
Did you know that California's largest lake is located only about 100 miles east of San Diego? Formed in 1905 during massive flooding on the Colorado River, the Salton Sea today hosts one of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth. Please join Anza-Borrego State Park Ranger Steve Bier as he explores the promises and perils associated with this critical yet sensitive habitat.

Green Event: Planting of the Three Sisters
(Co-sponsored by the Humanities Institute)
The Three Sisters (corn, beans, and squash) have been planted by traditional Native American gardeners in many different regions of North America. The traditional Three Sisters garden forms an ecosystem by creating a community of plants and animals. This system creates a beneficial relationship between the three plants- each plant helps the others grow. Join expert Paul Maschka as he describes the history and folklore surrounding the Three Sisters garden and be a part of the planting of the Three Sisters at Mesa's Organic garden.

Green Event: Ecosystems and the Food Soil Web
Join expert Paul Maschka as he describes the intricate balance in life found in Mesa's organic garden. A garden ecosystem attracts a variety of organisms that are in search of food and habitat. In a healthy ecosystem, all components are dependent on each other and exist in harmony. A gardener is a part of the garden ecosystem whose activities have an effect on the environment and the organisms in it.
