Dental Assisting Program

Program

It is a nine month certificate program. As part of the training students receive clinical experience working on patients with dentists. Classroom Laboratory instruction includes nutrition and preventive dentistry, physiology and anatomy of the teeth and mouth, biology of dental disease, dental specialties, legal considerations in dentistry, and the psychology of patient-dental assistant relationship, as well as the functions and duties required of the Registered Dental Assistant.

The Dental Assisting program is accredited by the State Board of Dental Examiners, and is sponsored by the San Diego County Dental Society and the San Diego County Dental Assistants Society. Upon completion of the program the student receives a certificate of completion from the program, and certification to operate dental x-ray equipment in the State of California. The student is also eligible to apply for the California Registered Dental Assistant Examination to become licensed as a Registered Dental Assistant with Coronal Polishing licensure.
