Description: This course is designed to introduce students to the field of Linguistics. In this course, students develop an understanding of the nature of language through the study of core areas in linguistics including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Students also read, write and think critically about related fields such as psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, and animal communication. This course is designed for students who plan to transfer as well as for those with a general interest in Linguistics.
