Lectures and discussions include issues pertinent to Latin America's past and present such as modernization, social movements, political conflicts including revolutions, and race and gender relations. Throughout the course, modern Latin American history is placed in the context of global economic, ideological, and cultural trends. This course is designed for all students interested in the history of modern Latin America and the Caribbean.
