Description: This course is a survey of children's literature from folktales to current works. The course compares works from a variety of authors, cultures, and historical periods while emphasizing current American works. Principles of literary criticism are applied in evaluating the themes, language, and structure of works studied. This class is suitable for students interested in literature as well as for students who are preparing to teach.
