Canyon Day Schedule of Events
CANYON CLEAN-UP -- SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2012
8:45 a.m. Meet at the Tecolote Canyon Nature Trail trailhead at corner of Marlesta and Genessee.
9:00 a.m. Ranger Janice Lavallee of Tecolote Canyon Natural Park will provide a safety talk before the canyon cleanup, which will involve trash and invasive species removal. Tools and supplied are provided.
915 a.m. Clean-up begins. Information talks about the flora, fauna and geology of the canyon will be presented by Professors Leslie Seiger, Don Barrie and Bill Brothers of the canyon a.m. to 1 p.m. Cleanup: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
12:00 to 1 p.m. Refreshments, certificate presentation.
NOTICE TO PARTICIPANTS
* Volunteers meet at the Tecolote Canyon trailhead near the corner of Genesee and Marlesta.
* Not recommended for children under 10 years of age. Children under 18 must have TWO signed waiver slips (click here for Mesa College waiver formand City of San Diego Waiver Form) or be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Closed-toed shoes required. Questions? Call 619-388-2942
* Closed-toe shoes, long pants and long-sleeve shirts are required.
PARKING: Park along Marlesta and Genessee , or in Lot #1, Mesa College; parking is free and permits are NOT required for the day. Drop offs can be made at the trailhead site; please be careful and use crosswalks while crossing Genessee. (Click on Canyon Day Map at left for locations).
CANYON CLASSROOM -- FRIDAY, MARCH 23, 2012
Student volunteers are welcome to assist in this elementary classroom event. Canyon Classroom is a community outreach program for local elementary school children planned and produced by students in Mesa's teacher education program.
