Mesa Baseball Dedicates 2013 Season to Hunter Harris
The Olympians Baseball program is proudly honoring fallen teammate, Hunter Harris, on Feb. 1, 2013 against the visiting Mt. San Jacinto College. In tribute, Harris will be announced as the starting pitcher for the Olympians at their 2:00pm home opener. Hunter, a freshman pitcher from Patrick Henry High School, will always be remembered by his teammates, family and friends as playful, caring and a genuine friend who loved baseball and had a great sense of humor. In honor of such a tremendous person and teammate, the Olympians Baseball program would like to dedicate their 2013 season to his memory and will proudly honor him with a personalized logo on their hats and t-shirts.
Mesa Pays Tribute to Hunter Harris, Outscore Eagles 5-2 at Home
Feb. 5, 2013 – The Olympians Baseball’s home opener meant more than just a start to another baseball season. It was a special day for a special young man and his family, friends, teammates and coaches. That day, their friend, Hunter Harris, was going be honored and announced as the game’s starting pitcher. Before the first pitch could be thrown, the Harris Family was presented with their son’s jersey before the large crowd full of Hunter’s family and friends. It was a moment that not only was heartfelt but a moment that symbolized what Hunter Harris meant to his team. In tribute, the Olympians have dedicated their season to Harris’ memory and will be proudly wearing his initials on their hats.
Riding the emotional high of the pregame ceremonies, the blue and gold started off their home opener in a way that would have made Hunter proud as they took down the visiting Mt. San Jacinto College in a 5-2 victory. In the opening inning, the Eagles struck first with 3 hits and 1 run while Mesa answered back with a run of their own off of 2 hits, including a double by centerfielder, Kyle Harris who scored off of a sacrifice line drive by teammate Jeff Ricker. The 2nd inning would belong to the Eagles as they scored their 2nd run of the game while Mesa’s lineup was unable to answer back. Going into the 3rd inning, Mesa settled in and shut down Mt. San Jacinto while adding another run to the home score following a leadoff walk to Patrick De la Garza who went 1-3 on the day with a stolen base and a run scored. Mesa continued to shut down the Eagles in the 4th inning while bettering their score by one following some untimely pitching miscues which set the table for a big 6th inning where the Olympians pushed across 2 more runs following Tyler Timmer’s leadoff single. The second baseman ended the day going 1-2 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base while teammate third baseman Justin Esquerra went 2-4 at the plate. At the conclusion of their home opener, the Olympians bettered the Eagles in a final score of 5-2 with 7 hits and only 1 error while hurler Steve Borkowski notched his first win of the season. Borkowski threw 6 innings and faced 28 batters while only giving up 2 walks, 2 runs, and retiring 4.
Campbellsville University picks up starting pitcher, Chris Tuma
November 15, 2012 - The Olympians are proud to announce the signing of starting pitcher, Chris Tuma to Campbellsville University. The 6’2” hurler will be heading to the NAIA school on an academic and athletic scholarship after completing his 2013 here at Mesa as a sophomore. Competing in the Mid-South Conference, the Tigers finished in 3rd place last season with a 37-18 over record and closed out conference play with a 14-7 record. This competitive conference had a tight margin between the leader and second and third places so it should be an exciting season for Tuma when he joins Campbellsville in 2014 as a starting pitcher.
Last season, the right hander ended his freshman year with a 2.75 ERA and an 8-3 record with 13 starts for the Olympians. He led the bullpen with 33 strikeouts while only giving up seven walks. In conference play, the Fremont native was 6-2 with a 2.15 ERA and led the pitching team again in strikeouts with 25 in 10 starts. Going into his second year in blue and gold, Tuma, who made the 2012 1st Team All PCAC, will be a more experienced and seasoned veteran who will be able to help his team defend their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title before he heads off to Louisville, KY in the fall of 2013.
Former Olympian Dempsey, Chico State Head to World Series
Mesa College second baseman in 2010-2011, Myles Dempsey, is off to the NCAA Division II World Series with Chico State which will be played in North Carloina. Dempsey was named the Tournament MVP for his play during the regional.

The Olympians finished the season in a three-way tie for first with a record of 15-10 in conference play. Mesa tied with Southwestern and Palomar for the championship, and became the second seed due to the tiebreaking rules the conference has set. This will be Mesa's second consecutive trip to the playoffs. The Olympians have been seeded #12, and will travel to #5 Glendale Saturday and Sunday for a best-of-three series.

Stengel Field is directly across the street from Glendale College, 1500 N. Verdugo Rd, and the best access for your fans is to enter Verdugo Park on Canada Blvd. and take the road past the large parking area until you see the small lot adjacent to the field for drop off or parking. The field can easily be reached from either the 2 Freeway, exit Mountain Street, or the 134 Freeway, exit Glendale Ave.
The California Community College Athletic Association Regional Playoffs take place this weekend with the Glendale College Vaqueros hosting San Diego Mesa College . Game times for the best two-out-of-three series are at 1 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday with a third game to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game Sunday if necessary. Glendale is 25-10 on the season and is seeded No. 5 in the playoffs and San Diego is 20-15 and is seeded No. 12. Ticket prices mandated by the state are $8 for adults and $5 for children 12 & under.
PCAC honors SD Mesa's Tuma
APR. 4, 2012 - The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference has selected San Diego Mesa College baseball player Chris Tuma and Southwestern baseball player Cody Sos as its Men's Athletes of the Week.
Tuma, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound freshman pitcher from American High School in Freemont and a transfer from Cal State East Bay where he red-shirted, threw a two-hit shutout to beat rival San Diego City College 10-0. His performance jump-started a 3-0 week for the Olympians that kept them tied with Southwestern for the conference lead.
Former Olympian Haupt Named West Coast Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Junior catcher Dillon Haupt of the 35th-ranked University of San Diego baseball team has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday morning.
Haupt, a 6-5 junior from San Diego, helped catapult USD to a 4-1 record this past week as he paced the offense with an impressive .368 batting average (7-for-19), while recording a pair of doubles, two home runs and a team-leading 10 RBI. He was slugging at a .789 clip, and had an on base percentage of .409. In the first game this past week, Haupt went 4-for-6 with a double, a home run and four RBI. In Sunday's win over Vanderbilt, he led the team's offense going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Myles Dempsey leads all Chico State regulars and ranks 10th in the CCAA with a .372 batting average.
Mesa Battles Rain and COD for 6-3 Win

The Olympians ran their record to 2-1 on the season beating COD on a day when the weather was just as tough as the opponent. Starting the game at 1pm instead of the scheduled start of 2pm proved to be a good decision as the two teams were able to play seven innings before the rain forcast proved to be true.
With an early pitching duel, neither team was able to score until Garett Gallacher was led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to right center. Patrick de la Garza moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt, and AC Herrera followed with an RBI single up the middle. The Olympians continued the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with a lead off double from Conner Wilson, followed by back to back doubles from Tyler Timmer and Josh Suffridge to move the advantage to 3-0.
Desert was able to score three runs of their own in the top of the seventh with the help of two Mesa errors, knotting the game at 3-3. However, Mesa scored another run in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the eighth to put the game away.
The scoring in the seventh came from a walk by Justin Esquerra and another double by Tyler Timmer. The eighth inning started with Brett Ackerman hitting a double down the left field line, and a single off the bat of Garett Gallacher drove him in. De la Garza was able to score the final run for Mesa after getting hit by a pitch, stealing second and moving to third on the throw. After Herrera struck out on a ball in the dirt, De la Garza was able to score on the play at first.
Jackson Carroll threw four innings in his first college start, followed by shut out innings from Dylan Ruth, Chris Tuma, Joe Rosan and Brian Kaye. The three runs off Evan Taylor were all unearned.
Mesa Opens Season Beating Mt. San Jacinto

The Mesa College Baseball team started the 2012 season with a 10-1 win over Mt. San Jacinto. The scoring started with a 2-run home run off the bat of sophomore, Anthony Diaz. Mesa continued with another home run off the bat of Justin Esquerra, a freshman third baseman from Patrick Henry.
Freshman, Chris Tuma, kept San Jacinto scoreless for six innings before giving up two of his four hits allowed in the seventh when San Jacinto scored their only run. Dylan Ruth and Brian Kaye each threw a scoreless inning to complete the dominate pitching performance.
Mesa College #17 in Pre-Season Poll

In the pre-season poll for the 2012 season, The Olympians were voted #17 by the Southern California Community College Coaches. This comes following a season in which Mesa finished second in the PCAC, and took Final Four participant, Santa Ana to three games in the first round of the Southern California Regionals.
