To be eligible for admission to the Animal Health Technology Program, a candidate must:
- submit a completed application
- participate in one of the summer "boot camps"
- provide proof of a tetanus toxoid vaccination within the last 8 years
- provide proof of a negative TB (tuberculosis) test administered within 30 days of the start of classes
- Prior to submitting an application, the candidate must first apply for admission to San Diego Mesa College. This must be done on-line.
- Dead line for submission of the completed application packets is June 1st of each year. Packets are accepted year round and can be mailed to the Special Admissions Clerk or delivered in person during normal Admissions Office hours
- As a totally completed packet is submitted, it is given a "sequential priority number" on the waiting list. The following constitute a "totally complete" packet: Application, Official Transcript(s), Orientation Certificate (optional), and Competency Documentation
- Completed packets are numbered as they are submitted. If more than thirty (30) completed applications are received by June 1st, a Rating Rubric System is applied to each packet. The Rating Rubric follows this section. The following constitute a "complete" packet: Application, Official Transcript(s), Orientation Certificate (optional), Competency Documentation, and "Work In Progress" certificate if currently enrolled in a prerequisite course
- The highest thirty (30) point earners will be offered a position in the next entering AHT class. The top forty five to fifty (45-50) point earners will be invited to attend and participate in a mandatory one-day "boot camp" held on a Saturday (two camps offered each summer).
- After the second boot camp, IF any of the top thirty (30) students declines her/his acceptance into the AHT Program, the position is offered in turn to "boot camp" completers in decreasing point ranking.
- "Continued Interest" letters may be mailed several times during the year. It is the responsibility of the applicant to respond to each letter by the deadline date, failure to do so will cancel the admission status of the candidate. It is the applicant’s responsibility to notify the Special Admissions Clerk of any changes in contact information.
- Any candidate wishing to change their application status (withdraw or cancel) must provide immediate written communication to San Diego Mesa College Special Admissions Clerk.
The Impacted AHT Program Selection Rating Rubric
If the AHT Program is impacted - has more qualified applicants than openings - the following selection criteria will be implemented. You do not fill out this form. It is the rating form used by the Program Director and Special Admissions Clerk to rank all of the qualified applications.
