     Eligibility to join the SEEDS Scholars Program
 
  • Open to all incoming Mesa College students and current Mesa students with at least two semesters remaining prior to transferring;
  • All students are welcome, but we particularly encourage Hispanic and/or first generation students to apply;
  • Students who are interested in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, math); OR
  • Students who are interested in USDA-NIFA Priority Areas: sustainability, global food security, and hunger;
  • Students who plan to transfer to SDSU or UCSD in two years, majoring in a STEM discipline or other field (i.e., international business, economics, computer technology, communications, Spanish, geography, environmental systems, etc.) that takes into consideration USDA-NIFA Priority Areas

SEEDS Scholarship Requirements

SEEDS Scholars who reach the halfway point (25 points) of completing the SEEDS Program receive a $250 scholarship. SEEDS Scholars who complete the SEEDS Program (50 points) receive an additional $250 from the Mesa Foundation.  The following is an abbreviated “SEEDS Program Completion” checklist that select students receive at their Fall SEEDS Orientation.


     I. ACADEMICS

  • SEEDS Courses (3 points per course)
  • SEEDS Honors Contracts (2 points per contract)
  • SEEDS Class Project (1 point per course)
  • Education Plan (1 point)
  • Progress Report (1 point per semester)
  • Semester Grades (1 point per semester).
  • SEEDS Courses (3 points per course)
  • SEEDS Honors Contracts (2 points per contract)
  • SEEDS Class Project (1 point per course)
  • Education Plan (1 point)
  • Progress Report (1 point per semester)
  • Semester Grades (1 point per semester).

    II. LEADERSHIP

  • Leadership in Student Clubs (5 points per experience)
  • SEEDS Internship or Work Study (5 points per experience)
  • Other Leadership (1-5 points per experience)

    III.  EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

  • SEEDS, USDA, and related Workshops, Conferences, and Field Trips (2 points per experience)

    IV.  VOLUNTEERISM

  • Volunteer Activities (1 point per hour volunteered)

    V. MENTORSHIP

  • Advising Meetings (1 point per meeting)
  • Campus Support Services (1 point per activity)
  • Peer Mentorship (1 point per activity)
  • Office Hour Visits (1 point per visit)
