Bio
Hello! My name is Mariel Micael and this is my second year at Mesa. I plan to transfer
to UCSD and obtain a bachelor's degree in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience. After
that, I hope to go to Medical School and become a doctor. I previously went to Mira
Mesa High School and decided to enroll in Mesa College because it was the best option
financially. I chose Mesa over the other community colleges in our district because
I heard it has the best transfer rates and it’s near a lot of food! I'm so glad I
chose Mesa despite being confronted by the community college stigma because everyone
here is so welcoming and I’ve met a lot of amazing people.
My favorite things to do are to watch anime, rewatch The Office, bullet journal, walk
along the beach, drink water (stay hydrated!), and listen to music.
I decided to join the Peer Navigator program because I love using my knowledge to
help others. I never want to see someone struggling on their own, so I take it upon
myself to do my best to help. College can seem scary and overwhelming, especially
if no one else in your family has gone to college, but my hope is that me and other
Peer Navigators can help to make it a fun experience! From my personal experience,
my first semester of college was tough since I didn’t feel very connected to Mesa
yet. To change that I started attending campus events/workshops and I even got to
have my own peer navigator to talk to every month. One piece of advice from me to
you is to take advantage of every opportunity you get and know that you’re the only
one in charge of your life, so make the best of it!
