Leaders Engaging in Equity Practice (LEEP)


The Learning Opportunities for Transformation invites nominations (self-nominations are welcome) to participate in the Leaders Engaging in Equity Practice (LEEP) series. Please submit a nomination HERE.

The LOFT and Success Equity and Transformation Committee developed the Leaders Engaging in Equity Practice (LEEP) for Administrators, Faculty, and Classified Professionals. The (LEEP) Series is intentionally designed to take a deeper dive into equity and personal practice. The series will engage participants--classified, faculty, and administrators--as thought partners to define equity for multiple contexts through a variety of readings, guest speakers, film screenings, facilitated discussions, interactive workshops, lectures, panels, and collaboration.

What?
The (LEEP) Series is intentionally designed to take a deeper dive into equity and personal practice. The series will engage participants--classified, faculty, and administrators--as thought partners to define equity for multiple contexts through a variety of readings, guest speakers, film screenings, facilitated discussions, interactive workshops, lectures, panels, and collaboration.

When? 
Participants will meet four times in Fall and Spring on a Friday from 9 -12 pm. The first half is devoted to theory and research, and the second half is hands-on.

Showcase/Certificate Ceremony: 5/7/2019 (Tentative)

Participants will complete and present their final project at a showcase event that will conclude with a certificate ceremony.

Why?
To engage in reflection and action through collaboration to transform the college experiences of students--inside or outside of the classroom--through an equity-minded lens.

The goals for LEEP are the following:

  1. Define equity for multiple contexts.
  2. Select a praxis project to complete and develop a project plan by the third session.
  3. Identify three actionable ways to apply equity in daily work in department, committee work, or classroom and incorporate in a final presentation.
  4. Research, discuss and review information on equity practices through a variety of sources.
  5. Share a reflection about personal discoveries. 

 Deliverable (Select one):
Select one of the following praxis projects to complete and present at the end of the series. “Praxis is defined as--action and reflection upon the world in order to change it (bell hooks, 1994, p. 14).”

  1. Course Designed/Syllabus Reflective of Pedagogy, Theories, and Practices from the LEEP Series. 
  1. A Presentation that incorporates LEEP Series lessons and presented in your Department.
  1. Vision, Mission and Values Statement Documents.
