Message from the President

The San Diego Mesa College accreditation site visit culminates a process of dialog, writing and preparation that has spanned more than three years. The visiting team, led by Dr. Brice Harris, Chancellor of the Los Rios District, is composed of eleven individuals from colleges like ours and includes faculty and administrators from the areas of Instruction, Student Services, Administrative Services, and Institutional Effectiveness (Research). The team will be on our campus from Monday afternoon, October 10, through Thursday, October 14, 2010, located in LRC 435 as the Team Room. The first activity will be a Monday afternoon Welcome for the team by individuals involved in campus leadership: faculty, student and staff participatory governance leaders, President's Cabinet members, and managers.

The team will hold two Open Meetings at which team members will be available to talk with any member of the college wishing to speak with them. These are scheduled for:
Tuesday, October 11, 1-2 pm in H117/118
Wednesday, October 12, 4-5 pm in H117/118.

In advance of the visit, the team members have read our Self Study, and reviewed documentation and other materials sent in advance. Each team member has been assigned specific Standards as their focus. During the visit, team members will be interviewing individuals and groups to validate the Self Study and to assure that the College meets all parts of the accreditation standards. If you have played a part in writing the Self Study, please be prepared to make yourself available at short notice for the team. We have provided the team with a list of committees meeting during the week and it is possible that team members may attend part or all of some meetings. Team members will also visit a number of classes; these visits will be of short duration and unannounced.

The visit will conclude with the Exit Interview, scheduled on Thursday, October 13, 2 pm (tentative) in H117/118. Team Chair Dr. Harris will provide some general comments on the team's findings but will not announce the team's specific findings and recommendations. These will be communicated to the college after the Accreditation Commission's January 2011 meeting.

Please take a little time to familiarize yourself with the Self Study either by reading selected Standards or by reading the Abstract. Finally, but not least, a debt of gratitude to the many individuals who have contributed to the preparation of a stellar Self Study and those who have organized the site visit.
